Wood doesn't last forever on its own - especially on the exterior of a home. Sun, heat, and humidity slowly pull the moisture out, leaving wood dry, faded, and eventually cracked. Most homeowners don't notice it happening until the damage is already showing. That's the point where staining goes from being a cosmetic upgrade to a necessary fix.

On this Georgetown home, we handled the front door, shutters, and the arch framing - three separate wood elements that all needed attention. Each one sits in a slightly different exposure, which means we had to think through prep and product carefully. You can't just slap stain on dry wood and call it done. The surface has to be right before anything else happens.

The front door turned out especially sharp. Deep, rich tone on a craftsman-style door with glass panels - that kind of detail work requires patience. Getting stain into the trim work around those panes without creating a mess takes a steady hand and the right application method. Same goes for the shutters - they've got gaps and edges that paint or stain can easily miss if you're rushing.

A lot of people underestimate how much the exterior woodwork affects the overall look of a home. The arch framing, the shutters, the front door - these are the first things someone sees when they pull up. When they're faded and dry, the whole front of the house reads as neglected, even if everything else is well kept. When they're freshly stained and sealed, the house just looks cared for. It's a noticeable difference.

Staining is also one of those things where doing it right the first time matters. A quality stain job, properly prepped and applied, holds up much longer than a rushed one. We take that seriously on every job, whether it's a single door or multiple elements across the whole front of a home.
